Great gardens require effort and planning.
Use your flower garden (whether it’s just a flower box or perhaps a hanging basket) to provide lots of color and attract the butterflies, hummingbirds or songbirds. Enjoy “cut flowers” from your own garden.
There’s nothing like having tomatoes or carrots from your own vegetable garden. Add some fresh herbs to your favorite recipes.
Adding trees and shrubs can increase the value of your property. But just throwing up a few trees or shrubs without a plan can actually be a detraction. Put lots of thought into your plan because you are making an investment for the future.
Flowers may be easier to work with than your shrubs and trees, but getting those bigger plants established first provides a framework or backdrop. Then use the flowers for the finishing touch.
To be successful at gardening you need:
- Good soil
- Healthy plants
- Adequate water supply
- Space for growth
- Weed, pest and disease free environment
- Plenty of sun or shade depending on the plant
- Proper fertilizer
